Professional Athletes
As I sit here the night before the NFL draft, watching some NFL news getting ready to veg on the couch for the draft tomorrow. Breaking News: The Detroit Lions have agreed to a contract with the No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Matthew Stafford. The contract is 6 years with 41.7 million guaranteed.
This is where I have trouble. This kid who has done nothing in the NFL, and was only average imo at Georgia, is not set for life. He could sign the contract, and god forbid, get hurt and never play a down and he is set. While I'm all for get all the money you can, I can't help but think there is something wrong with the pay structure in the NFL.
You have veteran guys, who have 10 plus years experience, who won't make 41.7 million over there entire career. Now granted, the minimum salary for a veteran in the NFL is nothing to sneeze at (450,000 - 950,000) but these guys are the ones that deserve the big contracts. Not some kid who may or may not be the next Joe Montana.
I guess I may be a little jealous because I will probably never see 41.7 million dollars. But I'm all for paying the people that have proven themselves rather than some unknown.

Tax Day
Yesterday was the deadline to file taxes or extensions. I hope everyone got theirs done in plenty of time. I like to wait to the last minute, because that's just how I am. You know, I was gonna file my taxes, but then I got........
Well I waited to the last minute because I thought I was gonna have to pay but I should have sent it in much earlier. Not only do I not have to pay, but I'm getting a refund :).
Not a lot going on new. Been working on a project at work and haven't had time to blog much. You know with crackbook (facebook) and twitter (which I'm still getting used too), I don't have much time for anything else. I have let MySpace go by the wayside, because all the cool kids are on facebook. I just don't have the time for all the social sites.

Cigarette Taxes
I don't want to bitch too much because I don't want to sound like I'm whiney! However, the new federal cigarette tax that went into affect today is absolutely horrid.
I don't question what the tax money is "supposed" to go to, child health care, but for a single, never married, no kids, smoker, this tax sucks. I don't mind paying my share of taxes, or should I say the AIG executive bonuses, but I don't believe that adding higher taxes for something that not all people consume, is absolutely laughable.
Communism, here we come. I never thought I would live to see the day. Like it or not, "Big Brother" will soon be telling you when you can go to the bathroom. Land of the free, home of the brave. What is it going to take?
Change I can believe in? Let's drop all the politics and do what it takes to keep our country safe and prosperous.
